Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

Judaic Studies in 4th grade has gotten off to a great start this year!

We have had a great time learning about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We focused on the special importance of teshuvah- repentance, tefillah- prayer, and tzedakah- charity and acts of kindess during this time.

Please enjoy these photos of some of the activities we enjoyed:

"Tashlich" at the boardwalk.

The students said a special prayer to asking Hashem to help us 'throw our sins into the sea'- make a fresh start and put mistakes that we have made in the past behind us.

"Kapparos" ceremony before Yom Kippur

Rabbi Naftali swung a chicken over our heads. We asked Hashem to forgive us in the merit of our giving this chicken to tzedakah to help feed the poor.

Baking honey cake for a sweet new year :)

Lots of honey = lots of sweetness!
